How to obtain your US ESTA?

A US ESTA form is an online authorisation granted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) which allows UK citizens as well as any citizens from the Visa Waiver countries to visit the USA for a short period. Any travellers need to fill the online form by registering and answering questions regarding your name, age, address, country of birth, but also passport number. You will also be asked about your criminal record and the purpose of your travel.

The basic price for a US ESTA is 14 dollars per application. In exchange for a reasonable contribution, many third-party companies like ours offer many useful extra services.

Before starting your application, be sure to know if your situation matches the criteria needed to obtain the authorisation. If that’s not the case, you will then be required to apply for a Visa.

Our advices to fill your ESTA application form correctly

Thanks to our specialised application form, the process is now much easier, quicker and available to anyone. All you need is to have your valid passport at hand, and access to the internet!

The ESTA application form contains 3 different parts:

  1. The first part contains questions about your identity: Surname, Forename, place and date of birth, gender, etc.

  2. The second part is about your passport and your travel itinerary: Passport number, date of issue, expiration date, flights number and date, the address you will stay at in America, etc.

  3. The third part is a series of questions that you can only answer by yes or no. You will be asked questions about your medical history and your police record.

The first and second part of the application form are the most important. We advise double checking your information before submitting your completed form. How to obtain your ESTA?

Are you planning on travelling to the United States soon? Whether you are going for touristic or business purpose, you will be required to apply for the travel authorisation ESTA (short for Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) before you can board a plane to America. Being able to obtain an ESTA is however restricted to a few requirements:

  1. You must hold a passport that may remain valid from the day you submit your application until the day you return to your home country;

  2. You must be citizen from one of the 38 countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP);

  3. Your journey must be for tourism or business purpose and last for a maximum of 90 days;

  4. You must purchase a return flight prior to submitting your ESTA application;

  5. You must fill in your personal information inside the ESTA online form;

  6. A processing fee must be paid in order to finalise your application.

To optimise your chances to obtain your ESTA in time, we recommend submitting your application form at least 72 hours before your departure to the United States. Your travel authorisation will remain valid for 2 years or up until your passport expires. This 2-year period allows for multiple travels to America using the same ESTA number.

Important: If your personal information changes during the validity of your travel authorisation (name, gender, passport number) you are then required to renew your ESTA by submitting a new application form with your up to date information.

How much does the ESTA cost?

In order to travel to America, citizens from countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program must first obtain an ESTA. The processing fee of this travel authorisation starts at $14, the price may vary depending on the provider you are using such as website or service. The cost of an ESTA remains lower than a classic US visa ($152) to this day.

Certain third-party companies specialised in the ESTA process provides a variety of services in order to help with your application form. By choosing to use our assistance, you will access the following services:

  • Access to our specialised application form that is simpler and quicker to fill in.

  • The verification and correction of your information by our team of ESTA experts.

  • Access to our customer support team online available to answer any queries you might have 7 days a week.

  • We submit your ESTA application completed and verified directly to the relevant authorities in your name.

  • We send your travel authorisation directly to your email address.

The most common reason as to why an ESTA application is denied is linked to misspell and small mistakes like entering a wrong passport number. Thank to our deep knowledge of the ESTA process, we know how to limit the risk of refusal and present clear, mistake less application form to the American authorities.

Note: In case of a refusal, the first solution is to wait for a period of 10 days before reapplying with a new ESTA authorisation application. You will of course need to recommence the procedure from the beginning and again pay the administration fees. It should be noted that the administrative fees paid for ESTA applications that are then refused are never refunded.

What is the ESTA?

The Electronic System for Travel Authorisation is a document produced by the American authorities allowing individuals to board a plane or a boat toward the United States. To obtain an ESTA, one must submit an application form online. However, to be eligible, travellers must be citizen from one of the 38 countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program and hold a valid electronic passport.

To obtain the travel authorisation, simply fill out the online application form available on our website while following those prerequisites:

  • The airline used to travel must be approved by the United States government.

  • You must purchase a return flight ticket prior to applying for an ESTA.

  • The duration of your stay in America must not last more than 90 days.

  • You must not have a history of breaking American laws during past visits.

  • You were not recently denied a visa application.

It is important to know that an ESTA only represent a travel authorisation and does not guarantee admission on American soil. The homeland security agents will decide your eligibility during the security controls that takes place at the airport, upon your arrival.

Any travellers can apply for an ESTA at any time. However, we recommend submitting your application at least 72 hours in order to receive your authorisation in time for your flight. You can then print your ESTA just in case you need to show it to the authorities. If you lose your printed copy, don’t worry, your ESTA information are electronically transmitted to the American authority’s servers and will be easily retrieved by them.

Submitting an ESTA application

If you wish to travel to America, you must imperatively hold a travel authorisation such as a US visa, a green card or an ESTA. The ESTA is the easiest to obtain and the least expensive options of the three. You will receive your authorisation within 72 hours, in most case, on the same day of submitting your application.

To start your application process, simply click the button “Submit your ESTA application” on our website. You will then access the form containing a series of questions about your identity (forename, surname, date of birth, etc.), your contact informations (address, email address, phone number, etc.), your medical history as well as your police background.

Some questions will require you to simply tick yes or no.

You will also be required to enter your passport number (its validity must cover the entirety of your stay in America), your flights numbers (from an airline recognised by the US government) as well as your city of departure.

Once you’ve completed the online form, our team of experts will proceed in the verification and correction of your application form to make sure everything is in order. By using our services, you can be sure that no mistakes will be left on your form that could result in a refusal by the US government. We then transfer your application to the homeland department for review and you may receive your ESTA authorisation within the same day to your email address.

The process is entirely operated online, you’re not legally required to print your document, but we recommend that you do so, just in case you need to present it to the American authorities.

What are the ESTA questions?

Any travellers who wish to obtain the travel authorisation ESTA must apply by filling the online form containing several questions to evaluate your eligibility:

  • Your identity: Surname, Forename, date and place of birth, gender, marital status, name and surname of your parents, etc.

  • Your contact details: home address, phone number, email address.

  • Your workplace: Job title, employer’s name, etc.

  • Your passport: passport number, date of issue, expiry date, country of issue.

  • Your journey: flights number, city of departure, address of your accommodation, etc.

  • Emergency contact: name, address, and phone number of the person to contact in case of an emergency.

  • Your medical history and police background: This series of 10 questions are about your criminal record and your medical situation, past and present.

Important: By ticking the box “I accept the general terms of use”, you therefore agree to renounce your right to contest any decisions taken by the immigration agents regarding your admission on the American soil. Keep in mind that once your application is accepted, the only information that can be updated afterwards is your home address and your email address.

The information contained on your ESTA travel authorisation must remain up to date during its 2 years validity, if any changes occurs such as name, gender, medical or police record, you must apply for an ESTA renewal.

How long is your ESTA valid for?

The ESTA remains valid for 2 years starting from the day it was issued. To travel legally with an ESTA authorisation, the information used for the application must remain the same. You are required to renew your travel authorisation ff any modifications were to occur including:

  • Change of name;

  • Change of gender;

  • New medical condition;

  • New information on your criminal record;

  • Your passport expires, and you obtain a new one.

However, if your ESTA happens to expire during your journey in the United States, you can return to your country without worries: your travel authorisation is only needed upon entering America.

Your ESTA allows you to stay in the US for up to 90 days maximum. You can plan several trips using the same ESTA authorisation during its 2 years of validity, however a waiting period of 3 months must be respected before returning to America. If you need to return before the 3 months period has ended, an application for a visa must be submitted.

What to do if your ESTA application is refused?

Your ESTA application was answered with a refusal? In that case, the first thing to do is to check the information you have entered in your application form to see if there is a misspelling or a wrong number:

  • Name, surname, date and city of birth;

  • Passport number, issue date, expiry date;

  • Flights number, return flight must be within the 90 days;

  • The airline is officially recognised by the US government;

The slightest mistakes upon entering your information can lead to a refusal from the US government. If that’s your case, a waiting period of 10 days must be respected before a new application can be submitted. If you choose to obtain your travel authorisation through the services of our company, your application form will be entirely checked and monitored to ensure that it matches the very strict criteria imposed by the US government.

The main objective for the ESTA is to provide an extra layer of security for the American territory. For that reason, if you happen to possess a criminal record containing past offences, the American authorities might decide to deny your application for an ESTA.

If you have a clean police record, and you did not find any mistakes on your application form, unfortunately this means the Homeland Security Department decided that you were not eligible to obtain an ESTA. They are not obligated to provide a reason for the refusal. However, this does not mean that you cannot apply for a visa through an US embassy. We recommend applying for a B2 visa (tourists) or a B1 visa (business) that will grant you access to the American territory for up to 6 months.

You can also apply for the green card if you are seeking asylum, an American citizen relative or if an American company wishes to hire you for a highly skilled job.

How to modify your ESTA?

Updating your ESTA information is possible in a few cases. If you have already received your travel authorisation, you will only be able to update your email address and your home address. The ESTA is valid for 2 years and therefore some of the information can change at some point. In the case that your personal information or situation has evolved (change of name, new medical condition, new passport number, etc.) you must then renew your ESTA by submitting a new application form containing the new information. The recent acts of terrorism all over the world has forced the American government to strengthen their homeland security and the admission to the American country is stricter than ever. It is in your best interest to declare those informations as accurately and up to date as possible, to ensure that there will be no risks of being refused entry upon arrival at the airport.

Please keep in mind than obtaining the ESTA only allows you to stay in the US for up to 90 days. You must imperatively leave the country after this time frame, otherwise you could be accused of illegal immigration by the US authorities.

Is an ESTA the same as a US VISA?

Before you embark on a plane to American, you must hold a travel authorisation issued by the US government. It could be a green card, a visa, or an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation). Each of those 3 documents are different and require going through distinct process to obtain them.

If you are planning on a short stay for tourism or business purpose, the most adapted document to obtain is the ESTA. It allows individuals to stay in America for up to 90 days. You simply need to fill in the online application form and answer various questions about your identity, your medical history and your police record. Once your travel authorisation has been approved and issued but the Department of Homeland Security, you will receive your ESTA to your email address in less than 72 hours.

The US visa was designed to accommodate individuals who needs to stay in the United States for up to 6 months. The process to obtain a visa is more time consuming and expensive than the ESTA. It requires visiting the closest US embassy and attend a one to one interview with American official. The cost for a visa application is usually about $160.

The green card is the hardest document to obtain due to very strict requirements, this document was created for people who wishes to move and live in the United States permanently for family or professional reasons.

Are you eligible for the Visa Waiver Program?

The Visa Waiver Program is the result of a collaborative work between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of States (DOS). This program allows individuals from 38 partner countries to obtain the “ESTA”. This travel authorisation permits travellers to enter the United States without the need to apply for a classic US visa.

This process is simpler and less expensive than applying for a classic US visa, you can obtain your travel authorisation very quickly, usually within the same day of submitting your application.

The ESTA remains valid for 2 years from the day it was issued to you and allows you to do several trips during this timeframe. To this day, 38 countries are participating in the Visa Waiver Program.

Among the requirements to obtain the ESTA:

·         Your passport must remain valid for the entirety of your stay in America;

·         You must choose to fly with an airline that is recognised by the US government;

·         Purchase a return flight tickets (the return flight must occur before or on the 90th days of your trip);

·         Declare honest and accurate answers on the application form.

To help you with this process, our expert team proceed to the verification and correction of the information entered inside the application form, to ensure no mistakes were made and improve your chances to obtain your ESTA. We guarantee the fast delivery of your travel authorisation to your email address.

How to plan your trip to the USA?

Planning such a long journey is never an easy task, the first thing to do is to check that you have all the necessary paperwork and document for your travel:

·         An electronic or biometric passport that must remain valid for the entire stay;

·         A return flight tickets issued by an airline that is recognised by the US government, the return flight must occur before or on the 90th day of your trip;

·         A travel authorisation ESTA holding up to date and accurate information. If your ESTA expire before the end of your journey, it’s not an issue as your document is only checked upon your arrival and not during your departure from the US.

Once the administrative part is done, you can then start planning your itinerary, book your hotel or a car, plan the many places that you wish to visit. The American territory is vast and offer a variety of iconic places to discover such as New York with places like Central Park, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and the Rockefeller Centre. If you fancy a more partying scene, Las Vegas is reputed for its famous strip filled with restaurants, clubs, casinos and venues where you can enjoy all kind of shows. It’s also very close to the Grand Canyon for those who desire to see some nature scenery. You can also check out the state of California to enjoy sandy beach, sensational parties, and the Hollywood studios. If you are travelling with your family, Orlando will be a mandatory visit as your children will be delighted to visit the very famous Disney “Magic Kingdoms”.

What are the passport requirements to travel to America?

To be able to travel to America legally, one must imperatively hold a valid passport otherwise you will not be allowed to board the plane.

Two types of passports are accepted:

1.    Electronic passport: Introduced in 2006, it contains an electronic chip containing various information about your identity (name, citizenship, date of birth, passport number) and can be read automatically by a machine at the airport.

2.    Biometric passport: Inaugurated in 2009, its electronic chip contains additional information such as a digitalised picture of the passport owner and digitalised finger prints. The biometric passport was designed to lower risk of fraud and identity theft.

A passport is valid 10 years for an adult person and 5 years for minor. If you do not own a passport or if it has expired, we recommend getting a new one, as you won’t be able to travel at all without one. To do so, contact your local council that will guide you through the process. Usually you will be asked to present several documents including:

·         Your ID card or your old passport;

·         A passport type picture of yourself;

·         A proof of address: the original and a photocopy;

·         The application form fully completed along with paying the processing fee.

If you reside abroad, you may enquire for a new passport at the closest consulate from your country.

Important: Before boarding on the plane to America, please ensure that the number inscribed inside your new passport is the same as the one present on your travel authorisation. If that’s not the case, you are required to renew your ESTA by submitting a new application form with your new passport number.

What is the Department of Homeland Security?

The Department of Homeland Security was created in 2002 to increase the national security following a series of terrorisms acts perpetrated on the 11th of September.

It is composed of 15 federal agencies and is lead by the American government. The DHS’s missions are diverse and includes the procession of all ESTA application. Any travellers wishing to enter the United States without a visa is required to answer a series of questions inside the ESTA application form: about your identity, your medical history, your criminal record as well as your planned itinerary in America.

Upon reviewing your application, the DHS will then decide to grant the travel authorisation or not. The DHS can be view as strict when it comes to admission to the United States but the effort to combat the entry of terrorist requires scrutiny over every traveller’s profiles to determine their eligibility.

It’s important to note that the ESTA is solely an authorisation to travel to America and does not guarantee access to its territory. The permission to enter remains in the hands of the homeland security agent upon your arrival at the airport.

Keep in mind that the ESTA allows you to stay for up to 90 days in the United States, in that regard it is mandatory to leave the USA before or on the 90th days, otherwise you could be considered an illegal immigrant by the authorities.

If you wish to stay for longer periods of time, applying the US visa or the green card is the best option.
